The success of any educational institution is measured not only by the level and quantum of knowledge disseminated to students through its competent faculty, but also the number of such students who secure employment, which will serve their livelihood. As an Initiative of the Guru Nanak Educational Society to improve the placement/self-employability skills for the youth of the college, Guru Nanak Center for Skill Development was launched in 2019 to mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji.
GNCSD is operated as centre of Excellence of the college. The centre has employed a Dean, Deputy Dean and the coordinators for the smooth functioning. GNCSD has signed MOUs with Europe India Foundation of Excellence (EIFE), Khadi Village Industry Commission (KVIC), Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSME), ICT Academy for providing skill development courses to the students in areas such as AWS Cloud, Cisco Python, App Development using Kotlin, Advanced Tally with GST, Cyber Security, Agriculture and food processing, Simple Chemicals, Bakery products, Fruit & Vegetables Preservation, Cell Phone Servicing, Sanitary Napkin Making, Jewellery Making etc. GNCSD has collaborated with National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), National Stock Exchange Academy (NSE) and Statistical Analysis System (SAS) for providing advanced industry demanding skills. All the students of Science, Commerce and Humanities are benefited from the training.
The centre has established Institutional Membership with Amazon, Cisco, Oracle, UI Path, Honeywell and ICT Academy to facilitate the students to learn the latest Technologies. After the completion of the courses the students will get International/ National Certification from the above said companies. KVIC has given free entrepreneurship program for 1800 students. The college has initiated the training through CSS Corp on Networking Technologies and Soft skill. This training-cum-placement programme was provided for the final year MCA students of the college.
GNCSD has initiated free Entrepreneur Development training for commerce students through MSME. Guru Nanak College has been established as SWAYAM - NPTEL Local Chapter: This has helped the college to adopt MOOC integration to our autonomous.
ICTACADEMY: This Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Guru Nanak Educational Society (GNES) and ICTAcademy. This MOU has facilitated the Centre to conduct various job-oriented courses like AWS Cloud Certification, Cisco Python and Android App Development using the latest technologies like Kotlin. Internationally Certified Corporate trainers were deputed to impart the training to all the three-year students of computer science. Also, Hands of training has helped the students for the placement and to be an entrepreneur. All of the certifications are cobranded and the companies will be placing the students to their clients.
Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC): This Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Guru Nanak Educational Society (GNES) and Khadhi Village Industries Commission. This MOU has facilitated the KVIC to conduct following courses: Bakery Products making, Herbal Products making, Imitation Jewellery making, Sanitary Napkin making, Beautician Course, Simple Chemicals Product Making, Fruits and Vegetable Processing. Trainers from KVIC were deployed from the organization for the effective training.
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME): The centre has signed MOU with MSME. This MOU has facilitated the MSME Technology Development Centre to conduct various courses like Tally ERP9, Advanced Tally with GST, GST Practitioner, Cell Phone Repair, CCTV Installation and Repair, Roof Top Gardening. Corporate trainers from MSME were deployed from the organization for the effective training.
Evidence of Success: During the Pandemic students were trained on preparation of sanitizers and handmade soaps as per WHO norms by the in-house trainers as the certificate course. Also, these products were useful to the society besides meeting the college requirements. During the academic year 2020-21, the entire college students got the benefit of acquiring and developing their skills through the courses. They have been given the National and International Certification Programme. The beneficiary and course statistics is as illustrated below.
Infosys Springboard: The Centre has signed the Data Privacy Agreement (PDA) with Infosys Springboard and shortly the college will be signing the MOU with Infosys Limited. Infosys Digital Literacy Mission Team had briefed the staffs and the students about how Springboard contents can be accessed. The college has shortlisted job demanding courses for the faculties and students. Also, the contents will be created by the faculties and will be made available to the student’s community across India.
Honeywell CSR – Youth Empowerment program: The “Youth Empowerment” program conducted on 5th October 2021 is a CSR initiative by Honeywell ably implemented by ICT Academy under the banner “Centre of Excellence for Youth Empowerment”. This CSR activity of Honeywell has facilitated 100 students to get trained on Salesforce (Developer) and on successful completion of the course the students will get an International Certification and placement.
Guru Nanak College has been recognized as Centre of Excellence for youth Empowerment for training students on Advanced Information Technology Skills. This program is a CSR initiative by Honeywell ably implemented by ICT Academy. Honeywell has facilitated 100 students to get trained on Salesforce-Developer and this 100-hour training includes extensive learning with practical sessions. On successful completion of the course the students will get an International Certification. Also, the placement assistance will be provided by the company.
HDFC Parivarthan – Aspiring Entrepreneurs Programme
This programme was initiated by GNCSD as the CSR of HDFC. Students are benefited on this entrepreneurship programme which was implemented by GNES in association with ICT Academy and HDFC. Aspiring entrepreneurs were identified and were given domain specific training by HDFC for establishing start-ups with financial assistance.<'p>
CSR with Robert Bosch: GNCSD has collaborated with ROBERT BOSCH, this Industry Academia Collaboration has facilitated the college to get a staff trained directly by the company. The students are now trained in the modules such as: Skill Entrepreneurship, Nation Building Attitude and Behavior, Competency of Features and Social Responsibilities
National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM): The Centre has signed MOU with NASSCOM (IT-ITES SECTOR SKILL COUNCIL). The objective of this MOU is to undertake relevant skills upgradation via training programs in the emerging technologies for the students and faculty members of our college. This is done to encourage any-time, any-where, continuous self-paced learning for acquiring high end industry relevant Technical skills and build digital fluency on emerging technologies & professional skills through the availability of byte sized micro learning content.
Tamilnadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC): Guru Nanak Centre for Skill Development is associated with Tamil Nādu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC). The TNSDC has approved the two courses: Plant Biscuit Production and Jam Jelly Ketchup processing technician courses. Currently the students are identified, and courses will commence shortly. Students from the department of Zoology and Plant Biology are the beneficiaries. The centre has shortlisted job roles for the commerce and the computer science students.
Statistical Analysis System (SAS) India PVT Limited: The center has signed MOU with SAS India PVT LTD, This MOU has facilitated the college to incorporate SAS syllabus in the curriculum. Also, specialized training program are shortlisted and center shall provide the International Certification courses on the same.
AWS Cloud: Guru Nanak College has received the status as “AWS Academic Member Institution” and this has facilitated the Institution to provide hands on training in the AWS cloud platform and 403 students have completed the training and the student’s resumes are maintained in the company portal, this will help us to provide them with placement.
Cisco Networking Academy: Guru Nanak College has received the status as “CISCO Networking Academy Member Institution” and this has facilitated the Institution to provide hands on training in the Python Programming and 503 students have completed the training. Since Python is the programming language widely used for Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, this training will help them to increase their Job opportunities in the new technologies.
ICTAcademy: Guru Nanak College is associated with the company for a period of 5 years and the organization has not only helped us in providing training but also in the placement of students. Also, they have provided the training to the Faculties of our college under the FDP programs (Train the Trainer Model) which has helped the faculty to learn the latest Technologies.
Oracle Academy: Oracle Academy has authorized Guru Nanak College has the Academy Member and this certificate entitles the Institution to avail all oracle academy program. Since Oracle is one of the world best Database Software the college is privileged to have this association. Further this authorization helps the staffs and students of the college to work with this software which does not require any Licensing fees.
UI Path Academic Alliance: UI Path has recognized Guru Nanak College has the Academic Alliance and this association will help the college to provide staffs and students training on Software Automation process.
Skill Training with DXC Technologies with NASSCOM Foundation, Implemented by Ethnus Software
Guru Nanak Center for Skill Development has started the training for all the final year graduates and 1st year Post Graduates on the technologies that will be used for the domain which are specific to their departments. This is the sponsored program by DXC Technologies in collaboration with NASSCOM Foundation and implemented by Ethnus software Bangalore. The company will be training the graduates in the following technologies: Linux, Virtualization, Data Base, BPS Insurance and Google Analytics. After the training the company will provide internships and placement assistance.

The NASSCOM Annual Technology Conference, one of the premier events that bring together technologists, innovators, and industry leaders to explore the latest advancements and trends in the technology landscape was held at Leela Ambience Gurugram Haryana. In the Event Guru Nanak College (Autonomous) was felicitated with the award for achieving one of the highest number of NASSCOM certification and Building India as Digital Talent Nation with Future Skills Prime (MEITY NASSCOM Digital Skilling Initiative). This Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Guru Nanak College and SAS Institute India Pvt. Ltd. on 14th June 2021, to provide training on SAS Analytical Platform for B.Sc. Data Analytics Course and Certification Programs with SAS. Further the centre has planned to introduce various SAS certification programs in different verticals such as Banking, Insurance, Retail, Telecom and Clinical Trials.

This training will help the students to work in this application to learn market learning and reproduce features of a live equity/derivative/currency derivative market on trading terminals for its users to practice and learn trading securities without financial risks.

Honeywell Limited has provided salesforce Developer training as a part of their CSR Activity. Hundred students are trained in the Salesforce Developer platform and all of them are provided with the course content and T-shirts. Students have completed their training successfully and they are going to take up their global certification shortly.. We thank ICTAcademy and Honeywell for this opportunity.

The “Youth Empowerment” program was conducted to students by Honeywell under the banner “Centre of Excellence for Youth Empowerment”. This CSR activity of Honeywell has facilitated 100 students to get trained on Salesforce (Developer) for 100 hours and all the successful students were provided with an International Certification followed by placement.
Guru Nanak Centre for Skill Development and The Hindu have taken a mega programme, “STEP”, A tailor made curriculum for the students of Guru Nanak College to up skill their English Proficiency. This STEP programme (Standardized Test of English Proficiency) has boosted the confidence of the students.
The college has appointed an SPOC for this project Staff training was done on the employability skill and they have in turn trained the students. Placement drives were conducted for all the students of tamilnadu in our campus. Maperum tamil kanavu program was conducted by the government of tamilnadu and our college student was shortlisted as the best students out of 1000 students who participated across tamil nadu.
The centre has done the CSR activity with the top corporates and some of them are NASSCOM Foundation, Robert Bosch, Honeywell, HDFC, PayPal, DXC Technologies and Ethnus Software. DXC Technologies with NASSCOM Foundation (Implemented by Ethnus Software) has facilitated our final year graduates and 1st year Post Graduates on the technologies like Linux, Virtualization, Data Base, BPS Insurance and Google Analytics. Guru Nanak Centre for Skill Development, renowned for its commitment to enhance students’ skills, recently extended its focus to upskill the faculty members of the programme of English(SFS) and Management by hosting a three day Faculty Development Programme from August 27 to 29. This initiative was part of their preparation for the upcoming STEP Programme . Ms Sumithra, STEP- Trainer, The Hindu, led the training sessions.

Guru Nanak College in association with Tamil virtual academy, Govt of Tamil Nadu has conducted the Tamil Dream -Mega event. 1000 students across the city from various colleges have participated and enriched their knowledge towards Tamil Proficiency. Guru Nanak College (Autonomous) has been conferred as the Centre for Women Empowerment (A CSR initiative of PayPal India implemented by ICT Academy). Under this project the Guru Nanak Centre for Skill Development conducted Certification training for Female students on Salesforce CRM. They will be provided with placement assistance. The Inaugural session of the Event was held on 16th February, 2023, to brief the students about this project. The total training was 140 hours that includes softskill(40 Hours) and Technical Training on Salesforce CRM (100 Hours). 110 Women Students across various disciplines benefitted from the training.

The Guru Nanak Centre for Skill development held the inauguration of its new centre in the Arjan Dev Block in the Guru Nanak College campus on 20th December, 2022. The centre was inaugurated by Dr. Marlene Morais, Advisor, Guru Nanak College (Autonomous). Dr. M. G. Ragunathan, Principal, GNC, Dr. N.C. Rajashree, Vice-Principal, SFS II, Dr. Swati Paliwal, IQAC Coordinator, Mr. Christy, Dean E-Governance, Mr. Saumyakanta, Head, IMS graced the occasion. The inauguration was also attended by all the School Deans and Faculty Trainers. Dr. Anand, Dean, GNCSD, presented the courses completed in the Odd Semester and Dr. Kavitha, Deputy Dean, GNCSD announced the certificates received by the various departments. The faculty trainers and Skill centre coordinators also received appreciation certificates. Dr. Marlene Morais delivered the inaugural address and appreciated the efforts taken by the Skill Centre to upgrade courses continuously.

Mr Iswinder Singh - India Lead of CISCO NetAcad, Skills, and Social Innovation group visited the campus on 30th Aug 2022. Discussion happened with the Management; Principal, Vice-Princpal, Deans of Skill, IT and the HOD’s of computer Science programs. The main agenda was on skill courses, Internships and on curriculum Integration. Also, Importance of simulated software Labs was discussed and how it can add element of experiential learning with work-ready skills that industry and employers desire.

The Guru Nanak Skill Development Centre Future Skills Students Conclave on 17th May, 2022 at Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Auditorium, Guru Nanak College. The proceedings began with invocation. Dr.Kavitha, Deputy Dean, Skill Development , briefed the audience about the skill development centre and also about Future Skills Prime. Dr. M. G. Ragunathan, Principal, Guru Nanak College, welcomed the Presiding guests, Mr. Navanit Samayar (Head, Future Skills, NASSCOM), Mr. Udaya Sankar (Deputy Director, SSC, NASSCOM), Faculties and students. Mr. Manjit Singh Nayar, General Secretary & Correspondent, Guru Nanak College (Autonomous) honoured the chief guests. Dr. Anand, Dean, Skill Development gave a presentation about the functioning of the Skill Development Centre and the MOUs. Mr. Navnit advised the students to continue leaning and to utilize opportunities to the maximum. Mr. Udaya in a vibrant way advised students about time management and about student life. The program came to an end with the vote of thanks by Dr. Dolly, Coordinator, Skill Development and it was attended by all department students and Teachers.

Guru Nanak Center for Skill Development arranged the Certificate Distribution Ceremony on 1 June 2022 for all the final year students of our college in the Guru Amardas Seminar Hall. The chief guest of the function was Dr R Ravanan-Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education Chennai Division. He briefed the students on the importance of skill training. He explained about the “Nann Mudalvan” initiative that was inaugurated by the honorable chief minister of Tamilnadu. Ethnus Software & DXC Technologies in association with NASSCOM Foundation have trained all final year students on Linux, BPS Insurance, Virtualization, additionally all the student was provided with Google Analytics course and 2372 students were benefitted. Students are given placement assistance by DXC and other companies.
Guru Nanak College (Autonomous) took part in the skill mega mela - Thiran Thiruvizha held @ Queen Mary's College, The College is empaneled for two courses Plant Biscuit Production and Jam Jelly Ketchup Processing Technician, As Great beginning students from Advanced Zoology & Biotechnology and Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology Departments registered for the courses. Exclusive stall was provided to our college. Honorable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu inaugurated the event and Kirlosh Kumar IAS Secretary- Labour Welfare and Skill Development distributed the course registration certificates to our students.
Guru Nanak Center for Skill Development has started the training for all the final year graduates and 1st year Post Graduates on the technologies that will be used for the domain which are specific to their departments. This is the sponsored program by DXC Technologies in collaboration with NASSCOM Foundation and implemented by Ethnus software Bangalore. The company will be training the graduates in the following technologies: Linux, Virtualization, Data Base, BPS Insurance and Google Analytics. After the training the company will provide internships and placement assistance.
